Technologies
Most of our engineering team members have completed graduate degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, which create a unique portfolio of expertise for developing Scenargie® products and providing associated engineering services. Here is a list of technologies in our products and services:
Parallel Discrete Event Simulation (PDES)
Parallel Discrete Event Simulation (PDES), or simply parallel simulation, allows highly detailed system simulation models to be executed very fast on a multi-core processor machine without abstraction of models. Abstraction has a risk of compromising the accuracy of simulation results, and may not be allowed under several system evaluation methodology guidelines. PDES can yield a speedup as many times as the number of cores (processors) utilized for the execution while preserving the simulation accuracy. This technology is extremely important for analysis and evaluation of new systems upon which standardized abstraction methodologies have not been agreed in the corresponding communities.
However, PDES is almost impossible to be adopted in the existing simulation tools or frameworks that have been designed without considering this technology. Our Scenarige® simulation framework is designed and built from scratch to accommodate the PDES technology. Scenargie® users can benefit from processing power offered by increasingly common multi-core processor architecture and increase engineering productivity significantly.
Multi-Agent Simulation (MAS)
Multi-Agent Simulation (MAS) is simulation of a multi-agent system, which consists of multiple agents that act and interact with each other autonomously without complete knowledge of the system to which they belong. The idea behind MAS is very similar to network simulators as each network node can be seen as an agent. We are extending application of the MAS technology to model system user behaviors, and providing customers with solutions for end-to-end service quality evaluation on a WiMAX system, performance evaluation of vehicle safety applications, and many other cases in which the target system needs to be modeled as a multi-agent system.
Geographical Information System (GIS)
A good Geographical Information System (GIS) data handling within the system simulation framework is essential to configure complex yet realistic system scenarios. For instance, mobile users, whether they are pedestrians or vehicles, move along streets and/or inside building structures, and their radio receptions are greatly affected by obstructions due to hills / valleys and buildings. Configuring system evaluation scenarios that account for these environmental effects on user behaviors and RF propagations has been considered very important, but no network simulation tool with good GIS data handling capability existed up until now. We are leveraging GIS technologies in Scenargie® to accommodate such needs in our simulation framework.
Wireless communications and networking
With many of our engineers having wireless communications and networking backgrounds, we directly work with communities in which target systems are being studied, developed and/or standardized. This way, we can receive direct feedback from the communities and improve our M&S products to be more valuable and of practical use. We are currently working with participants of IEEE 802 WG.
